Epson announced its new LS10500 laser projector this week, as the successor to its LS10000 from last year. It still has the same $8,000 price tag, but this time around it comes with support for High Dynamic Range (HDR), which means it can play content from Blu-ray DVD players and other 4K streaming services. Its light output reaches 1,500 lumens, its bulb lasts for 30,000 hours, and it supposedly covers the entire DCI color space.

Also, just like its predecessor, the LS10500 relies on what Epson calls "4K-enhancement" to project in Ultra HD. Although it's only equipped with a 1080p chip, Epson displays a 4K image by shifting pixels so they reach Ultra HD quality. Your eyes likely won't pick up on Epson's pixel approximation if the positive reviews of last year's model are any indication.

For comparison, Sony makes projectors with its own 8-megapixel chip, so images are displayed in true Ultra HD. You're going to have to pay for that pure experience, though. Sony’s newest projector costs $15,000. The Epson LS10500 will be released later this fall.
