The Romanian hacker Guccifer, whose real name is Marcel Lehel Lazar, was sentenced to 52 months in prison today after pleading guilty to hacking-related charges.
Lazar rose to fame in 2013 after hacking communications from the Bush political family, leaking paintings by George W. Bush and correspondence between family members. He is also believed to have hacked into accounts from other prominent politicians, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
In all, Lazar admitted to hacking into accounts of about 100 Americans. He pleaded guilty to the charges of unauthorized access to a protected computer and aggravated identity theft in May, and was facing a two-year minimum sentence.
CBS reports that he will serve out a seven-year sentence in Romania before serving his sentence in the US.
