Bang & Olufsen is today announcing the BeoSound 1 and BeoSound 2, new wireless speakers with unique designs and 360-degree sound. The speakers support a number of wireless audio protocols, including Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, and Bluetooth.
Both models feature a tapered aluminum cylinder design that houses both woofers and full range drivers. This unique design not only makes them distinctive looking, it also allows the speakers to disperse sound in any direction. There’s a rotary control at the top for volume and a touch-sensitive panel for basic track controls. They also have proximity sensors, which can detect where you are in the room and adjust the control dial’s position accordingly.
Most of the control is done with your phone, however, either through Bang & Olufsen’s management app or through the music service app of your choice (the speaker does not have a display). The BeoSound 1 and 2 can be linked with other Bang & Olufsen speakers for a multiroom system, as well.
Bang & Olufsen refers to the BeoSound 1 as being portable because it has an integrated battery that lasts up to 16 hours between charges. But it’s not the kind of speaker you toss in your bag and bring to the park, given its foot-tall height and 7.7-pound weight. The battery is more useful for bringing your tunes out to the patio or to another room than for really taking your music on the go. The larger and more powerful BeoSound 2 does not include a battery.
The BeoSound 1 will be available starting today for $1,495, while the BeoSound 2 will hit stores in October and cost $1,895.
In addition to the speakers, Bang & Olufsen is announcing an addition to its Android TV lineup, the BeoVision Horizon. The new TV has 4K resolution and a sensor that measures lighting conditions and adjusts its picture accordingly. It is controlled with a Bluetooth remote and can be mounted on the wall, a wheeled stand, or with an easel. The Horizon will come in two sizes, 40 and 48 inch, and will be available in December for $3,995 and $5,495.
